Liberty and the Pursuit of Modern Technology

On our way to Delaware we decided to take a little detour! And let's be honest here, after you've been in the car so long another hour is nothing. So we went to Philadelphia, we just couldn't resist going to see a symbol of our nation's liberty, the Liberty Bell.

Instead of waiting in line for entry to see the Liberty Bell, we cleverly took the "Special VIP" viewing (A.K.A. through the looking glass on the side of the building).

Funny enough, no sooner had we gotten pictures and started to leave, than a whole muddle of people saw what we had done and followed in our footsteps!

"To go to work and have fun on weekends."

"For school/work."

On our way back to our car, we stopped by the statue of The Signer, a memorial to the courage that it took and the victory that was gained for America through the signing of the Declaration.

Our first official stop in Delaware was at the Patty Cannon House Marker.
During the 9th Century, Martha "Patty" Cannon and her gang kidnapped, coerced, and murdered both slaves and free blacks, transporting them over to the southern side.
Ms. Cannon was notorious as the cruelest and "most wicked woman in America," oh dear!

After driving around the back roads between Maryland and Delaware we finally located the Mason-Dixon marker on their borders!

And here is the beautiful stone carving called the Crowne Point Mason-Dixon marker.

Our Delaware Hometown was Seaford and probably one of the most important places we visited was the Seaford Museum.

"I really don't want to get up.  I push myself."
"To start another day with my husband, daughters, and grand daughters.  A wonderful life!"
"To enjoy the beautiful sun rises and having the opportunity to thank God for the new day to enjoy."

It was a very well done museum filled with historical significance, interesting exhibits, and fun facts about the town!

A recent addition was the railroad exhibit. It was complete with flashing lights and a mobile miniature train.

Campaign buttons from famous politicians covered this exhibits walls.

While you're at the museum, don't forget to look for the hidden 'mice' among the exhibits. This one was our favorite, enjoying a day out on the river, beside the mock bridge inside of the museum.

With it's beautiful Italian architecture, Governor Ross's mansion is a spectacular place for pictures and a tour!

When visitors came to call, the ladies of the house would usually have an autograph book to collect the signatures of any travelers or businessmen who came by.

We have come quite a ways in technology since this old timey biscuit maker! Can you imagine spending hours using this "machine" to make some biscuits? And that's if you were lucky enough to have such technology. Oh, the things we do for some good biscuits and gravy! :)

Often hair collected from brushes was used to weave into jewelry or to make hair wreaths to frame and hang on walls. The wreath would usually reside with the oldest member of the family.

When one of Governor Ross's daughters became engaged, she decided to test the authenticity of her ring on her window pane. She wanted to make sure that pretty diamond on her finger was real, who could blame her? She would scratch her name in the glass, and if it left a mark, the diamond was real. If it didn't leave a mark then, like the authenticity of her ring, she would know the authenticity of their engagement as well.

This window above the doorway of one of the children's rooms was used during the summertime to keep the flow of the heat moving and help to ventilate the home.

"To keep on living - Things to do."

The slaves quarters beside this home were well equipped with a fireplace, butter churner, and 'fancy' washing machine (a tub with ridges and a handle to spin the clothing inside).

This display is a collection of the treasures found on the grounds of Governor Ross's property.

Oh, it's the little things in life.. things we far too often take for granted in this technological day and age... things like toothbrushes!
These toothbrushes were only for the rich and famous per say. Normal, everyday people who didn't have access to this luxurious commodity would use the end of a twig that they'd cut off and fray to use the fibers to brush their teeth.

Today we're going to take time to be thankful for our everyday little blessings, like toothbrushes!
Let freedom ring,

A Walk around Millville

It's a one way to Glasstown Plaza, a nice spot to take a break by the fountain after wandering around town.

"To live life!"

"As you go through life always remember Happiness isn't perfected until it is shared."

"I get up in the morning because I wouldn't want to stay in bed all day."

"I get up each day because I am alive!"

"An automatic nervous system response!"

"I get up to volunteer at the Millville Army Airfield Museum."
"I get up every morning to live another day with my wonderful family."

"I get up in the morning to embrace the day!"
"I get up in the morning to go RUN! And for a good cup of coffee. (:"

"The object of life is not to be the best looking corpse."

We had an amazing dinner with our New Jersey family and friends before heading to the Custard Corral, a local ice cream hang out (there were even llamas around the corner!)

Thank you to our incredible New Jersey family for making our stay something that we will surely never forget. It was wonderful to get to know you all over coffee, food, stories, and music.

It was our New Jersey family who also introduced us to their friends from Germany who were visiting.  We were so glad as to have been so fortunate to meet them during their visit!
And now you will meet them too:

"I love to live---life is an adventure!"

"I am glad to be healthy and I can meet friendly people."

Many Blessings,
Love,

Everyday is an Adventure

Welcome to New Jersey!

We were fortunate to be able to tour the Union House in Millville, NJ!

The home has been there for over 300 years---it is even older than the town of Millville itself.
It began as a small one room home, and has since then been added on to become a beautiful and historically rich summer home.

This is the outlook on the lake from the screened in, porch like room that they would sleep out on during the warm summer months.

"I have a routine that I follow each day with things that I enjoy."

The home had a magnificent porch that overlooked the lake and a swing!

"I wake up and welcome the new day!"

Offset from the main hustle and bustle of the town...

...underneath twinkling strands of lights and amid homey tables and chairs...

...known for their quaint little stores and gatherings is the Village on High.

Uh-oh. It looks like someone walked off and left their pants and shoes behind!

Shannon's Coffee Shack was nestled into the Village and is the perfect place to meet with friends and enjoy a delicious coffee!

"Coffee."
"To love with all I have and complete a purpose in life."

"I get up in the morning for my three year old. Because I live for him and...he wakes me up."

"I wake up everyday so that I can see what sort of adventure the day will bring!"

Everyday is a beautiful adventure...
...we can't wait to see what tomorrow has in store for us!

R.I.P. Stinky

We'd now like to take this time to give a special memorial to Stinky the Snail, the backseat pet that Jennifer didn't know she had.

Nobody hears of horror tales like this one.
Things like this just don't happen.
At least not to good people, right?
Walking along the beach you pick up all sorts of rocks and shells and neat looking ocean trinkets and for the most part you end up perfectly fine. This is a warning to the naive that not all shells are harmless.
Our first day on the beach, Jennifer picked up a really neat conglomeration of multiple shells fused together.
Unaware of the tragic events that would befall her (and the rest of the car), she placed the shell in the back of the car without thinking twice.

We opened up the car two days later to be greeted by a ghastly smell.

Searching high and low for food that could have been accidentally shoved underneath some bags, we came up clueless for what the source of our soon demise could be.
"I think it's something in the trunk!" Jennifer said because the stench just got stronger the farther back in the car you went. After deconstructing the trunk as well, Sarah reached in the back window and pulled out Jennifer's beautiful shell collection. Inside, was the incognito home of Stinky the Snail!

Sadly, there was no time for a proper burial service, but Stinky did get a nice green view of the bushes.

Jennifer has been trying to get the girls to let her get a Road-trip Pet since Michigan...maybe she'd have better luck if she got ones that already have had their baths.

(Ryan & Heidi)
"I wake up in the morning for my friends and Ryan."
"I get up in the morning for my girlfriend Heidi."

"Every morning I get up to live---to experience life and to live expressively. Especially through music!"

"I get up early every day to go to work."

"To enjoy my day."

We spent the day on the beach, and went back later for an evening with our Connecticut family!

We were all sitting in the living room chatting over ice cream one evening.
Sarah turns to the little boy whose family we're staying with.
"John, how was school today?"
John gets these really big eyes and kind of looks at her for a moment.
"How do you know my name?"
"I asked your mom." She states, "Do you know my name?"
"Sarah." He says, taking a big bite of ice cream.
Jennifer chimes in, "John! What's my name?"
He gets a huge grin on his face and without missing a beat, replies back.
"Monkey!"

"When I wake up in the morning I am excited to start the day. I look forward to the rhythm of the day, the routine and the unexpected events of the day. I am lucky because I live just a short block from the Church Saint Agnes so I get to enjoy the hourly Church Bells and am able to get to 9:00 mass most mornings. This makes for a good start to my day!"

Thank you to our incredible Connecticut family! You all were too kind to come join us on some of our beach adventure! And John, thanks for letting us take over your room for a few days! :)

R.I.P. Stinky the Snail. You will forever be near and dear to our hearts---and far away from our noses.
