Before anything happens anywhere, it's important to fuel our souls with good and slightly nutritious food. Even fried potatoes are vegetables right?
"If I am lucky enough to get up. Make it better than yesterday."
"It's really important to me that I live everyday to its fullest. My biggest fear is that I look back and think I could have done something more. Even if it is a bike ride down by the river. I want to appreciate something, no matter how small, every day I live."
"To laugh and make people laugh, to make money to support myself, to learn new words and things, play viola, play tennis, get through awkward situations, to write, etc."
"I get up in the morning to make a difference with my life and the time that is given me."
"Why not???"
"To live life to the fullest."
"I get up in the morning for breakfast. I work for a delicious yogurt company called Siggi's. I love the people I work with and the product we sell!"
"I get up to be a part of the greater change. To be a part of a movement that counts and people that care."
"I get up to be a part of the greater change. To be a part of a movement that counts and people that care."
"Because I have to or if there's pancakes with bananas + chocolate chips inside."
Our D.C. hostess Nora, introduced us to the city. Where we ate some delicious food, found some great coffee, saw a beautiful fountain, and spent a lot of time in the metro station (which was a whole lot easier to find than in NYC!).
First things first: a trip back in time to the National Museum of American History with our friends Melissa and Evan!
"I always have something to look forward to...
OR
Because Harley (their dog) has to pee."
The entrance to the Star Spangled Banner exhibit. While pictures weren't allowed inside, this is definitely an exhibit that every American needs to see.
In another exhibit, we saw a really great pair of red shoes!
Displayed are one of the nine pairs of sparkly red shoes Judy Garland wore in her role as Dorothy during the filming of The Wizard of Oz.
It's important to never forget the price of freedom.
Thank you to our veterans and military members, past and present, for the sacrifices they have made so that we may benefit from living in freedom.
When you're on the hunt for food, the good ole hot dog trucks down National Mall are lifesavers!
No matter your topping preferences, or even where the hot dog came from, when you've worked up an appetite 'traveling through time', everything tastes good. Really, really, really good.
Inside the National Museum of Art.
So what do we do in art museums?
We re-enact the sculptures of course!
Walking into this exhibit, we weren't really sure if we were allowed to photograph the paintings.
So naturally, Jennifer walked up to the security guard.
"Is it okay if I take some pictures?" she asked.
He looks at her, without missing a beat and replies,
"You can photograph the paintings, just as long as you don't take any off the walls!"
Thank you for the clarification.
If you look closely into this mirror, nestled right between the reaching arm sculpture and the bust of the man on the mantle, you will find the faces of three traveling girls smiling back at you! :)
The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
Such majestic hues adorn the high ceilings of the basilica; paintings of enormous measure and detail.
After Mass at the Basilica and navigating back into downtown D.C. we were ravenously hungry. So we moseyed into District Taco, where the tacos were delicious!
The White House is stunning in the day, but spectacular at night!
...well, until you're hurried off by a few security guards...
Last ride on the Metro...
And that was an end to our night...
...but only a blink on our journey...
Land of the Free,
Because of the Brave.
Love,
The Crew
