D.C. by way of a Detour

Yes, we know that Washington's home in Mount Vernon is technically in Virginia. And we're technically supposed to be exploring D.C., but it is very close. We also know that technically D.C. isn't one of the 50 states, but we included it because we thought it was important for our exploration of America, and officially our road trip doesn't really have "rules" so here we are
...at Mount Vernon...
...during our stay in D.C....
which is beautiful this time of year if we do say so ourselves!

"To go to work that I enjoy."

The view from Washington's porch was lovely and we just had to get a picture!

"Because that's what God wills for my life."
"Because God has a plan for me."

It's as if this tree grew its roots there to be a little bench to rest on along the path to George Washington's home!

Thanks Melissa and Evan for showing us around Mount Vernon and for the delicious dinner!

During our time in D.C. we wandered around Georgetown for a while...

... while we were wandering we decided to stop in Georgetown Cupcakes!
All we can say is that the pumpkin cheesecake cupcake was delicious! :)

"Usually do the morning shift."

"My first reaction to your question is to go to work, duh! But then I realized it's much more. I wake up because I am alive and I love living. I want to wake up and learn new things and see myself, my family, and my surroundings change, grow, evolve."

"I wake up on different mornings for different reasons-but the predominant reason is that I find things in my life that give it meaning, such as working on international development, and more generally, forming bonds with people, being kind as often as I can, and being sure to appreciate the simplest things on a daily basis."

"So that I can see what happens next! [(And to ride my bike:)].

Thank you Nora (and your roommates!) for taking us in while we were in D.C.!
Thanks for the comfy couch, the cookies, and helping us to navigate the metro!
We had a great time!
