In The Belly Of The Whale

Nuzzled on the roadside of Oklahoma’s Route 66, The Blue Whale of Catoosa is one of the most recognizable attractions of that blessed stretch of Mother Road.

As an anniversary gift to his wife Zelta, Hugh Davis created the 20 foot tall/80 foot long Blue Whale in his pond in the early 1970s. According to their notes, it took him and his dear friend Harold Thomas 2,920 hours to apply the cement that they’d hand mixed to create what became a popular tourist and local  attraction that also included the ARK (Animal Reptile Kingdom).

This place is probably one of the only chances you will ever have to walk through the mouth of a whale, balance on it’s enormous tail, climb up to the top of his spout, AND live to tell the story. That is, unless you are the main character of a certain Bible story or a Disney movie.

If you look closely you may even be able to see one of us peeking out from one of the portholes!

Davis always believed that “every day was a beautiful day, that people should use the talents God gave them, that one should keep busy thinking, planning and creating, that people should love what they do and do what they love, that you should always finish what you start and that you should enjoy life and live it to its fullest”.

The World’s Largest Praying Hands stand at 60 feet high and bring us even closer to heaven at the Oral Roberts University. With 30 tons as their weight, these hands hold the weight of the world. They were originally located in front of the university’s City of Faith medical center and called the Healing Hands. Now they greet you as soon as you drive through the entrance!

"To get to Los Angeles...For music and sunlight."

"Because I'm not tired anymore."

To the power of prayer, and making it out of the belly of the whale,
Love,
The Crew
